Over the past three years, my personal life has kept me away from my website and from posting on social media. Along with working on my latest literary project and the sequel to the Rose Princess, I have had a lot on my hands with my brother’s mental health problems, helping my mother every time she called for me, even when I was trying to work, and my father’s health problems. I had originally wanted to finish and announce my latest book in late January and have it published by Valentine’s Day, but I had to postpone it due to my father’s death eight months ago, on the 1st of February of this year, after a fifteen-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. A week before his death, my father fell and broke his femur, he went to the hospital and instead of keeping him on his Parkinson’s medication and performing the surgery he needed the day he was admitted the hospital took him off his medication. It didn’t perform the surgery until the next day. At first, it looked like he would recover and he was sent to another hospital to begin rehabilitation only to be sent back that very night after suffering a seizure which caused him to stop breathing for a time. My father died after spending five days in the ICU at the age of seventy-seven. Every day, I wonder if the doctors had done the surgery the day my father was admitted and kept him on his medications, like my mother insisted, would he still be alive? Every morning when I wake up, I expect to go downstairs and see him either sitting in his recliner or at his desk working on his laptop, but when I see both chairs empty, I am reminded that he is no longer here.
